1. Use Vinegar and Baking Soda:
It may sound like an old wives’ tale, but word on the street is, adding roughly a 1/2 cup of plain white vinegar to your detergent dispenser will keep your gym towels fresh and soft too. Freshen up and soften your gym towels by using this technique with white vinegar about every six weeks. It’ll not only help to remove the soapy residue that makes some towels feel rough, but it will kill off any bacteria while restoring your towels to full absorbency as well. Simply run the towels through a regular washing cycle, then redo them using vinegar instead of soap. The addition of baking soda helps loosen up fibres and clean off grime and musty odours that may have built up.
1. Wash in Warm Water:
Warmer water absorbs detergent better, leaving less of a build-up or residue ofdetergent on your gym towels. If you want an even more effective wash, and you have a top loader, you can let your detergent dissolve in the warm water before adding your gym towels. Simply start the wash cycle, add your soap and wait a few minutes before adding your towels.
1. Don’t Overload:
Aha! A classic mistake that people in a rush make all the time. When you overload your washer, you impact on its ability to wash clothes properly. Placing less clothes in the machine will result in a better, more thorough wash. The best thing for your gym towels and your clothes are separate wash cycles. Washing your gym towels together not only eliminates unsightly lint on your regular clothing, but it also decreases the likelihood of cross-contamination of bacteria.
